Meet I’m Okay: why we made it

One button to tell the people who love you that you’re okay. The story of a simple app, built by listening to people who live alone and those who worry about someone.

Every morning, in a lot of homes, the same thing happens.

A son calls his mother “just to check everything’s alright”.

A friend texts the neighbour who lives alone.

A brother waits for a message that doesn’t come, and starts to worry.

I’m Okay grew out of that: the small daily worry we all know, and a very simple idea to ease it.

One button, and the people who love you know

At the heart of the app is a big green button: “I’m okay”.

You tap it, and your loved ones get a notification straight away.

No checking-up calls, no messages to write, nothing to explain.

If you like, you can choose a check-in time: if you don’t tap that day, your loved ones get an alert with your last location.

And if you need help, SOS alerts everyone at once and the phone calls the emergency number.

Everyone is equal

We talked to a lot of people before writing a single line of code.

One sentence kept coming back: “I don’t want to feel watched”.

That’s why I’m Okay has no roles: nobody is the watcher and nobody is the watched.

Everyone has their own code, you connect with each other, and anyone can tap “I’m okay”.

The son does it for his mother, and the mother does it for her son.

Your location stays yours

An app that can send your location has to be very clear about when it does.

I’m Okay shares it in only two cases: in an automatic alert, if you don’t check in by your time, and with SOS.

Never with an ordinary “I’m okay”.

Location points are deleted after 48 hours, and the server is in Europe.

There are no ads and we don’t sell data to anyone.

A small price, the same for everyone

I’m Okay costs €0.99 a year, after a three-day trial with every feature.

With no ads, the subscription is what keeps the notification service running, day and night.

If you like, you can gift a year to a loved one.

What you’ll find on this blog

This blog goes hand in hand with the app.

Here you’ll find guides to get the most out of it, ideas for people who live alone, tips for families who live far apart and useful safety information.

We’ll publish a new article every week.

I’m Okay is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.

In the meantime, if there’s someone you think about every morning, now is a good time to give them a call.
