I’m Okay
For families

Setting it up for a parent, without making them feel watched.

Many people install I’m Okay for Mum, Dad or their grandparents.

Here’s how to do it well, in a few minutes, and how to talk about it the right way.

It’s not about checking up, it’s a way of staying close

With I’m Okay everyone is equal: you tap “I’m okay” too, and your father knows how you are.

Nobody can see where the other person is at any moment: location only arrives in an alert or with SOS.

Instead of the “everything alright?” call every morning, a small gesture that leaves everyone free.

In seven steps

  1. 1

    Install it on their phone

Search for I’m Okay on the App Store or Google Play. It works on iPhone and Android, even between different phones.

  2. 2

    Do the first launch together

Name, date of birth and, if they like, their phone number. Then the permission for notifications.

  3. 3

    Swap codes

From the Invite tab, send their code to you and the rest of the family. The connection goes both ways.

  4. 4

    Choose the time together

For example 10 am, with half an hour’s grace. Only if they want: check-in times are optional.

  5. 5

Ask permission to set it up

With “Offer to set up their app” you can adjust times and reminders from afar. They get a notification for every change and can withdraw permission at any time.

  6. 6

If needed, turn on “Button only”

Only “I’m okay” and “I’m not okay” remain, big and clear. Ideal for anyone who finds several tabs confusing.

  7. 7

    Send a test notification

From settings, send a test notification. On Android follow the battery guide for their phone brand.

One person, one account. If two parents share one phone, call the profile “Mary and Joe”. For separate alerts, each needs their own phone.

The Home screen they’ll see every morning

Tips from families

Present it as something mutual

“This way I tell you I’m okay too” works better than “this way I can check on you”.

Tie the time to a habit

After coffee, after breakfast: the gesture becomes automatic.

Involve a neighbour

Someone who lives nearby can be the first to step in if an alert arrives.

Gift them the year

With “Gift a year” you pay their €0.99 and send them a code.
